Hi guys, first post here..
I have an Acer 6930G laptop running Vista Home Premium.
I have recently had to reinstall from the recovery disks twice with the resultant loss of all my personal data that wasn't backed up.
PC Specs:
Intel T5800 dual core
nVidia Geoforce 9300M GS Turbo Cahce
3MB RAM
Blu-Ray DVD player
Vista Home Premium.
I have Automatic Updates turned on.
Critical Software that was installed:
Microsoft Office 2007 (access, outlook, word, powerpoint, excel, one note)
Avast Anti Virus
Sunbelt Kerio personal Firewall
MSSQL 2008 Express Database and development studio
After a recent Microsoft update, the laptop booted to the 'knight rider' loader but hangs before it gets to the Vista spash logo.
Safe mode doesn't work,
System Repair doesn't work,
System recovery doesn't work.
The only thing I could do was F8 to repair center, launch the C prompt and use
Xcopy to move users files to the D Drive partition.
WARNING
For anyone else that needs to do this, Outlook 2007 files are in a hidden folder and are not copied across by default when using Xcopy; you need to use the /h hidden switch. I have now lost all my emails...
use command
Xcopy users /s /h D:backup
where you are in the root folder above users and D:backup is your backup location.
I have now reinstalled for the second time and loaded Avast and Kerio, but not MSSQL or Office as I think one of these and it associated security update is the culprit. I also suspect that it is a problem with the video card drivers but can't find anything on line to confirm this.
Has anyone else had a similar problem or know which update is likely to be causing the issue.
Thanks in advance
Obiron.
P.s. I can post Belarc Advisor stats for the current configuration if required.
