I had this problem with my system, hanging on crcdisk.sys
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R
Intel E7300
Radeon HD4850
4GB RAM
Vista Home Premium 32bit
I drove me crazy. I tried ALL of the above to try and fix it ... nothing
I even bought a new HDD and an external dock to check the old HDD on my laptop.
Old disk checked out OK. I started a new Vista install n the new HDD.... still hung on crcdisk.sys
Eventually, in desperation, I tried reflashing the BIOS, even though this mobo has a dual BIOS system and SHOULD be protected from BIOS corruption.
IT WORKED!!! So I put the old HDD back in.
sometimes it hiccups on bootup and I have to restart but it does work.I wouldn't be surprised if there are a couple of corrupted files or links on the HDD after all the desperate attempts to get it going again.
The new HDD is now a clone of the original. Acronis wouldn't work for me as it refused to see the destination disk, mounted externally, either by USB or eSATA.
I used EASEUS Partition Manager to do the cloning instead. The 32bit version was a free download ... nice.
Only thing left to do now is clear up this erratic starting problem. I'm hoping it's just a dodgy driver.
It's a different condition to the original, seems to hang bu tI suspect it's booting but not showing on the monitor, a graphics driver perhaps.
A Safe Mode then restart seems to fix it ... for now
So good luck with your CRCdisk.sys. Maybe try a BIOS flash if you're stuck.
It worked for me ;^)
