  1. Grandad thank you for your response, i have managed to dig out the manual and have also updated the driver for my graphics card. i now have a perfect picture and need only to sort out the sound. according to the manual the best option is HDMI cables as these carry both the audio and video feeds together. unfortunately only my TV has HDMI sockets, not my PC. i have had a good look aroud and have found a cable which has s-video + 3.5mm jack at one end (PC) and standard red, yellow and white AVI sockets for the TV input. it sounds as though it should work and at only £2.49 from e-bay with free delivery has to be the cheapest option available. i will post back to let people know if this works ok
  2. i'm not sure if i am posting this in the right place but.... i have a samsung 37" LCD TV model: LE37R87BD® which has a stadard VGA port on the back. i have tried to cennect my PC (vista) through this and although it seems to work, there is a constant flicker on the screen. am i right to use this type of connection of should i be using something else. also, i am unable to get any sound through the tv, does anyone know what type of connection i need for that.
  3. Problem solved... i managed to get into the updates and install them one at a time until i found the one causing the problem and kicked that out. i have since downloaded and installed SP1 followed by SP2 and all is running fine now. i cant seem to fing anything on SP3.. is there one?
  4. i am trying to resurrect my sons desktop (not been used for 12 months as he now uses a laptop) which runs on Vista. the machine has been reset to factory settings but now wont install all the updates. when i switch the machine on it searches for updates and finds 42. when i try to install them, it gets to about number 39 (after about 30mins) then says it failed to install all the updates and needs to restart, after restart i get a prompt that tells me to go to a restore point (there arent any) or reset to factory settings (done). this is now just a continuing cycle. does anyone have any ideas how i can run the updates successfully?
  5. Randy thank you for your response. i suspected it wouldnt be as easy as i thoght. your hunch is correct, they are both IDE drives in desktop towers. when you say 'put both drives on the same cable' is there a spare connection on the cable to allow this or would i need to purchase a new cable to allow 2 connections (i am assuming by cable you mean the ribon that connects to the drive). i have just looked up the enclosures and think that sounds like it would be the easiest way to go only i'm not sure exactly what one to go for. 2 and a half / three and a half inch? any ideas?
  6. i currently have a pc that seems to have died. i was hoping to be able to swap the hard drive from this pc to another that i have that isnt in use. both pc's run on windows xp and both have the same ide hard drive so i decided to just swap them over and boot up. when i tried this all i got was an intermittent beeping sound coming from the tower. is it possible to change the hard drive? and if so, what am i doing wrong. any ideas please? as i really want to be able to retrieve photos etc from the old drive
