  1. To cut an extremely long story short I need a new CPU as I am capturing HD and it has my CPU at 70%-100% within 5 seconds! With my mobo I am not going to get the power I need (Gigabyte M61PME-S2P) so I am looking at going for Intel i5 or i7. This has been recommended to me *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle [] Overclocked Bundles Intel Core i5 added all the parts up and it seems you pay roughly £25 for the over clocking pre-set. After browsing through forums that setup has been slated and people are saying they can build an i7 with 6gb ram for roughly the same amount (£500 ish). Well I am not a complete tech wiz but I understand the i7 is great for HD rendering which is my primary need! So my question is can anyone please answer my call and point me in the right direction to building a better PC. I will put the mobo, CPU and Ram into my current build which is: Antech gaming case ATI Radeon 512MB 4850 GDDR3 PCI-E Seagate barracuda 500GB 7200.12 (I might set-up Raid 0 if I need to record uncompressed) Corsair VX 450W power supply Items which shall be replaced: Gigabyte M61PME-S2P Kingston hyper X 4GB DDR2 800MHz ram AMD Athlon II dual core 245 - 2.9GHz Please let me know what my best options are, take into account I do not know how to over clock properly hence why this pack OC'd from 2.66GHz to 4GHz looked good to me.
  2. First of all sorry for the essay but I want to be thorough so I get the correct advise. I recently bought a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card. I have been in contact with Blackmagic and they were reasonably helpful but anything other then there devices they didn't seem to know much about. I am trying to capture at 720p - 59.94fps - compressed motion JPEG as this seems to be a good standard of capture. We have established my HDD write rate needed to be 13.5MB/s+ and it is always in excess of 89MB/s so I can't see a Raid 0 making a difference. The capture program does not seem to RAM intensive and yet I was still losing frames. So I watched the CPU usage after hitting record and it was going straight to 70% and within 10 seconds to 100% and then dropping frames obviously. My question is I need a new CPU so what would your recommendations be for my current motherboard Gigabyte M61PME-S2P (rev1.0) GA-M61PME-S2P (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification After having a quick read and seeing this on my motherboard spec I am concerned that upgrading would actually slow me down due to bus: (Note) If you install AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherbord, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200 MT/s) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM3/AM2+ CPU will not be impacted. I am reasonably computer literate and tell me if I am wrong but this means if I upgraded to say a AMD Phenom II Quad Core I would actually lose speed due to my motherboard slowing bus down. My current set up is: *Gigabyte Technology M61PME-S2P motherboard *AMD Athlon II x2 dual core 245 - 2.9ghz - 2mb L2 cache processor *Kingston hyper X 4gb (2 x 2gb) DDR2 800mhz dual channel ram *ATI Radeon 4850 GDDR3 PCI express - 512mb graphics card *Seagate barracuda 7200.12 - 500gb - 7200rpm - 16mb cache - average 8.5 seconds seek time *Corsair VX450W power supply
