Looks like I will have to update my beloved XP to Windows 7 - thanks Mr. Moneybags Gates! I have two desktops and a laptop so do I need to buy three programmes (one for each machine) or will 1 COA number allow more than one installation. Next - where is the best place to buy Windows 7 programmes in UK. Any help and advice is very welcome.

[Solved] HideDlg - What is it?
Woodbug replied to Woodbug's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Ken, Thanks for your help the icon has gone -
Hi all, I opened up this morning to find a blue icon at the bottom of the screen called HighDlg and I can't get rid of it. I have searched the net to try to find what it is and the only advice is to download various programmes. Some say it is dangerous and has to go and others say its part of a programme called autodesk - whatever that is. Can anyone help me to get rid of it please?

Hi all, Need a bit of help please - I have a screwed up HP Compaq Mini CQ10 - 500 EA and I have been trying to restore it back to Factory Settings but the recovery manager is missing from the hard drive. When I access the Recovery program it says empty. Does anyone know how to reinstall or reset the machine? HP doesn't deal with this problem on its website so any help will be gladly accepted.:smash:

Thanks for that Ken. I don't have a CD/DVD facility in the machine but I am nipping out to get a 4gb 'stick' should be big enough I think. Will let you know the outcome thanks again.

I have a HP Compaq Mini CQ10-500EA which has gone mad so I need to clear and start again. HP tell me to restore factory settings by pressing F11 - problem is that this model doesn't have any f keys! I have tried going into restore factory settings on the computer, but it wont restore as it says there is 'no partition available'. Please can anyone help and advise how to restore factory? Any help gratefully received.

I have been loaned a disk called UBUNTU for my 'dead' computer and this boots it but it won't access windows or Outlook Express and I need to get to my email info. Can you or anyone else tell me if there is a disk that will boot the computer into Windows? Once I get the info I need out of the machine, it doesn't matter if its a throw-away job, I just need to get it started. I hope you can help, as most of my stuff is backed up onto a second hard-drive and CD's, but not the emails. Thanks, Woodbug

Can anyone help me please? In my part of Spain we have had a series of power cuts and although I have surge equipment, both desktops have been affected. One one I can get it to start, but it won't connect to the internet and it wont system restore, even in safe mode. I have a message displayed 'Intel' ® 82945G Express Chipset Family GN Accelerator Drive. Insert Disk. Would this be the cause? If so where do I find this system?

Hi All, I have the code for the XP that was loaded in the computer when I bought it, but don't know how to re-install as I didn't get a disc with it. The disc I have is a genuine one with a code that I purchased and installed on a different computer. I don't doubt those greedy s*ds at Microsoft will consider it a crime if I use it in another machine, so can anyone tell me how I can re-activate the existing windows programme using the code I have for the installed version. Sorry if I appear a bit dim, but computers are really not my thing. Thanks for all your help. Woodbug.

Hi Frank, Thanks for your reply. My system is XP and not Vista - no idea where this came from! My computer is a DELL Optiplex GX280. It is slow and constantly freezing so I need to clear it and reload the XP disk again. It is not the same disk that came with the computer, as it was already loaded it's one I already have. Can you help from here please?

My computer is all over the place and takes ages to respond to anything and displays pages at random. I saved everything on an out-drive, but cant re-load Windows XP. The message says the version I'm trying to load is older than the current one, but its the same one. How can I clear the whole system and reload windows to start over? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank you both for your very sound advice (no pun intended honest!) I will now start on the difficult bit armed with the information you have supplied. Even a simple thing like buying a cable here is a major task - nothing is easy. Regards to all Woodbug

Hi RandyL I have taken the unit out of the computer and it says CD-ROM DRIVE Model GCR-8483B. I thought you could copy onto blanks with a CD-ROM. If I am wrong (and I probably am) please can you tell me what I need to obtain? Thanks for your time. Woodbug
