Camcorder connectivity
thingameejig replied to thingameejig's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I no longer have a working disc for this camera. I have been browsing items on youtube and it would seem that I should be able to capture/edit with windows movie maker. all the tutorials I have viewed describe a firewire cable 4 pin to 6 pin. I have a firwire cable 4 pin to 4 pin, there is no 6 pin on my lap top. Is thia why windows movie maker can't find my device? Are there any other methods of connection? -
Camcorder connectivity
thingameejig replied to thingameejig's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok, thanks for this, however I do not have a video recorder and I do not intend to use a DVD. All I want to do is copy/ view the content of my mini DV tapes and save them and possibly adit them on my lap top with a view to burn them onto cd/dvd. I currently have the camcorder connected to my laptop via a firwire cable but it does not recognise it. Will the software DVD sonic offer me a solution to this? -
I have a JVC GR- DVP7 I purchased it a few years ago, took several family movies and forgot about it. I am now trying to connect it to my laptop and copy the movies from it. There is a firewire port which I have connected to my laptop, however my laptop doesn't recognise that it's there. I do not know what software to use to both download the movies and/or edit them. Please can you recommend some software suitable for this purpose and I would be grateful for some tips on how to do it. Thanks in advance

I have just repaired my Advent 7093. It had been sat on the shelf for a while unused and I had forgotten why I had discarded it. The battery was an issue it didn't seem to hold any charge, nor did it appear to charge. I purchase a used battery off of ebay which is reported to have been tested and in working order. Having fitted the new battery the laptop keeps flagging up that the battery has 0% power and doesn't seem to be charging. When the lap top recognises that the battery hasn't sufficient power the display dims at the same time the warning comes up, however it is plugged into the mains. After I delete the message full screen quality and functionality are restored ( Iassume the lap top is then running on mains). When I open the power meter it shows the battery symbol with a large red cross and reports it as having 0% power. In this state the battery light is flashing red. With the battery removed the lap top runs fine. When the lap top is turned off and should be charging the battery the power light is illuminated red and the battery light is flashing red. Do you think I have purchased a duff battery or is it possible that both my existing battery and the replacement one are OK and maybe there is a problem with the charging ability of the lap top

Advent laptop monitor failing
thingameejig replied to thingameejig's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thank you, are they easy to fit? Can you recommend somewhere I might buy one from? The lap top is a Advent 7093 -
My advent lap top is a reasonable lap top and it functions fine; however when you angle the screen it flickers/goes off/ leaves a vertical strip of no picture or pixelates. If you gently squeeze the top casing around the screen it directly influences the display. Currently I have a clothes peg on the top of the frame which (subject to not moving the screen) keeps the picture quality perfect. If I remove the peg then an inch wide strip down the left hand side dissapears, further messing and I may lose the whole display? I appreciate the lcd has a fault, however is it terminal? Do i need a new LCD ? or is there something else I might try?

I came across a vid on Utube where severall people have claimed to speed up their internet browsing by going... ...start... ...run... ....cmd.... then typing in (under admin). .. regsvr32 axtxprxy.dll It seems from the comments that many have benefited from this, however it appears to be suited to windows vista; I am running XP. Is this a good method to employ? Is there a solution for XP?

Thank you, this tells me everything I wanted to know. I wasn't sure that simply deleting it from the desktop would be a final solution, however you have answered my question perfectlly, thanks.

microsoft has installed a new window to my desktop called browser choice. I haven't opened it yet, I have googled it and discovered that it is a safe legal requirement from microsoft to satisfy european laws. I have gained the opinion that it isn't wellthought out and that it forces you to load/delete existing browsers. I am currently running IE8 andam quite happy with it. What are yourthoughts and how I should proceed ? If i choose to keep IE8 how to I rid myself of this folder? I am unsure about opening it due to the poor reviews I have read which suggest that thing's will not be the same afterwards. If I do open it and run is firefox or safari for example a better (safer) environment than IE8? I welcome your advice/opinion
