Hi, Im using a network cable from the router to my room for the internet as the wireless signal is a bit weak. This cable works fine on the Xbox but doesnt seem to work for the laptop. It connects fine and Windows says the connection is working but when i try to go to a webpage, Google for example, it just says "waiting for Google to respond" and nothing happens. Ive tried everything; updating the drivers for the connection, resetting the router even got to the point where I did a factory reset of the laptop but nothing has worked. Please Help!

I apologise for how long this post will be, i know it must be boring to read it all but i feel i need to get all the info in to help solve the case! First off, im not sure what the differences are between ethernet/cross-over/network cables. I assumed they all did the same job, but perhaps this is the problem, we'll see. Id been using a long 20m cable supplied by my ISP to connect my laptop to the modem in another room. This had worked fine for years, then all of a sudden, the internet started messing up. It kept dropping the connection or saying "limited connectivity" or just running extremely slow. I tried restarting the modem, laptop etc to no avail. I did a thorough check for any viruses but found nothing, tried a different port on the modem and even tried a system restore. Nothing worked. But it worked ok with the Xbox??? So i bought a new ethernet cable. The laptop reads this cable fine but the internet just does not load at all. Ive tried it on my Xbox and another laptop and the same result. Perhaps its the wrong cable? But another, newer laptop works fine with it. Ive also tried another 10m cable i had in another room, this works fine on the Xbox but not on the laptop. And finally, i tried another laptop, this worked fine with the new cable once. Now it reads it but does not load the internet. What on earth is going on?

Using the Motion Eye Camera on Sony Vaio
raj_head posted a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Im using a Sony Vaio with a built in Motion Eye camera. I was wondering if you can use this camera as an independant video camera to capture clips to edit, rather than just a webcam in Messenger/Skype. Do i need a seperate or 3rd party program? Ive tried to find any useful programs on my computer and had a search on Google but havnt found anything (obviously) useful. Any help would be great. Thanks! -
Firefox - "Server Not Found"
raj_head replied to raj_head's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It may be and i shall definitely do a few scans and have a clean out. Though its not just happening on my computer but on others aswell. There are multiple people in the house using the internet all at the same time and the 2 of us that use Firefox have experienced the same problem. Could it just be a case of too many users, not enough band width? -
Firefox - "Server Not Found"
raj_head replied to raj_head's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I dont think its my ISP or firewall settings as neither of those has changed recently. Also its many different sites that are temporarily unacessible such as Google, Youtube and Twitter. I cant imagine the ISP or Firewall would block those, would they? -
I had a quick flick through some threads to see if this had been addressed but didnt find anything. But apologies if i missed it. I regularly get an error message of "Server Not Found" whislt browsing with Firefox. This happens completely at random with many different sites, often simultaneously. It seems especially sensitive when im trying to load a video on one site and trying to access another. No amount of refreshing or restarting seems to help and i just have to leave it and it will eventually work later. Ive have just updated to the newest version of Firefox but it hasnt made any difference. Any help would be great, Thanks!

Sorry to drag this thread up again. Have had a look on about:config on firefox and all the 'signon' preferences are still default. About resetting all preferences, im not quite sure how to do that or what i might lose (like bookmarks?). I found the Firefox profiles folder which has got one profile in it. Can i just delete the whole thing and Firefox will start a new profile automatically without losing my bookmarks? There is a file in the profiles folder called 'formhistory.sqlite'.Can i just delete that and have firefox start a new 'forms history' automatically?

Sorry for the late reply. Nope, dont have ATF or CCleaner.

Thanks for the tip Goku. Gave it ago and it does force some sites to ask about remembering passwords but the initial probelm is still there. I dont think i was very good at explaining it! The problem differs from site to site. I want Firefox to remember my username on Hotmail but not my password (which is what it use to) but now remembers nothing. For Youtube, it remembers my username and password but doest keep me signed in permanantly (like it use to). The little boxes saying 'remember me' seem to not work on hotmail and only remember my login details on Youtube. On YahooMail, Firefox remembers nothing at all whereas it use to keep me signed in permanantly. I know this is a very trivial problem and having to sign in to sites is not exactly majorly time consuming. But it was the fact that Firefox use to do all these things automatically and now doesnt! Anyways, thanks for all the help. It seems like this problem is just a bit of a mystery. If you guys come up with anything else, let me know! Cheers

I had AVG, Avast and Superanti Spyware all running at the same time. In another thread, i asked if this was pointless and after, uninstalled AVG and took Superanti Spyware off online protection. I can really remember if i uninstalled all components of AVG but i would guess that i did.

OK reinstalled Firefox but still the same problem. Maybe it is something to do with using a different AntiVirus?

Hmm no i hadnt thought of that. Err another question though. How do i back up my bookmarks?
