  1. Thanks for the reply, I have been away for a few days so have not been able to try your suggestion/help. I will do so this week and let you know how I get on. Thanks again
  2. Thanks KenB New install - drivers installed from Advent website ...... You see other other networks .... You can connect to other networks with this machine ... All other devices on the network can connect OK .... Is this all correct....All correct. The router is a Belkin G, about 4 years old. Thanks
  3. Laptop will not recognise home wi-fi. Hello all again, I posted the following recently... My advent laptop will not recognize my wireless connection. It can recognize nearby wifi connections, but not ours, so I know the laptop is okay. The other laptops connect okay, and they recognize the wifi connection, so I know the wifi is okay. While I was not too bothered about getting this fixed, it is now starting to bug me. I know, I need to get out more. With KenB`s help I have reset back to factory settings and installed the drivers but the exact same thing happens, cannot find my home wi-fi, but will connect to everything else, and all other PCs in the house can connect to the home wi-fi. Any help much appreciated. For reference it is an Advent 6552, 17" screen, Widows Vista, 32 bit. Thanks
  4. Hi KenB, Many thanks for your help, the drivers have worked a treat. Funny, last weekend decided to have clearout and found the original packing in the loft with driver discs etc. Still cannot connect to the home wifi, not too bothered as PC back to day one, and can use on other wifi`s. Thanks again
  5. It is a laptop Advent 6552, windows vista, 17 inch screen. I have been in touch with the Advent help line, and as yet have had no reply. Thanks again.
  6. Hi All again, I have decided to re-set it back to factory settings. Once it had gone through the process and re-booted, it still would not recognize my home wi-fi, but still recognozes the others. It has also set to the ``large icon`` display and will not let me set the resolution to a display of 1280x1024, as the slider bar will not go past 1024x768 display. Have I inadvertently deleted some drivers for the resolution? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks again for the replies. It is still playing up, and I will reset it back to ``factory settings``. Just to confirm, if I do this, will it be as if it has just ``come out the box`` ie press F8 or F9? Thank you
  8. Hi again, The router is a Belkan. I tried the device management, and there were no yellow exclamation marks, in fact it showed the previous Realtek router, and not the current one. I will give it a couple of more days, then just reset it back to factory settings. Thanks again
  9. Hi KenB, thanks for the reply. This has happened before when I have gone away for a week or so, when I turn all electrics off. It normally re-connects after a couple of days, however this has gone on for over a week. I will try what you suggest and get back to you. I might default it back to factory settings. It is 3 years old and is used a secondary laptop. Thanks again.
  10. Hello all, help or advice please. My advent laptop will not recognize my wireless connection. It can recognize nearby wifi connections, but not ours, so I know the laptop is okay. The other laptops connect okay, and they recognize the wifi connection, so I know the wifi is okay. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  11. Thank you for the replies and advice, apologies for not replying earlier, it has taken me time to find another charger that fits. It is defo NOT the charger, so I suspect the connection to the laptop inlet (or whatever they call it) has gone. Thanks again
  12. Hello all, help or advice AGAIN please. After my daughter`s laptop died a while back, I think mine has gone too. It was running okay, then the low battery light and beeping started, then the laptop went dead, I presume out of charge. The charger has a light on but it seems the power is not getting from charger to the laptop. I have tried to find a similar charger but still looking as the fitting to the laptop is an odd size. It is an Advent 6552, 4 years old. Any advice please. Thanks again in advance
  13. Many thanks for the advice and replies. Just to update, I had a local IT expert give it a diagnostic once over before I binned it, and indeed the motherboard and screen were finished. He also backed up the remaining files. Now I go shopping to the PC store. Thanks again
  14. Hello again, It is a Dell Inspiron 1545, less than 2 years old. To re-cap, does not start up, no screen, after about two minutes of switching on, it emits the beeps, in groups of 4, ie 1 beep, 2 beep, 3beep, 4 beep, small gap then starts again. Can the hard drive be transfered to another dell laptop? Reason I ask is that I am resigned to the fact it has gone and may need another, but I would like to save her itune library. Thanks again
  15. Hi Ken, Firstly thanks to you and anyone else for your help and time. The screen is blank, and I get the beeping sound, which I have just found out is a BIOS alarm rather than a low battery alarm. I think I will get some expert help in. Just in case it is irepairable, can the hard drive be saved and the data transffered? as she has a lot of itune albums stored. Thanks again
