I realise now reading that again I wasn't expilcit enough (A senior Moment) my monitor switched off when I am in the middle of doing work or trawling the net, for no apparent reason. Yesterday on one of it's "on" times everything on the screen magnifyed and a message said the Dispaly Driver has ceased to operate correctly please reboot. I did this and the the blessed thing closed down on me! Left it until this morning and the graphics are weird no boxes around the desktop icons etc. I am operating on Xp Sony Vaio

Hi can you please tell me, in simple terms please, what could be causing my monitor to switch off completley yet the tower is still running.
