I had AVG installed, but I just removed it and the computer was a bit quicker. Not sure what the update is, but I leave my computer to shut down automatically when it has finished updating.

Windows 7 stays on the Starting Windows screen for a couple of minutes before eventually loading the log in screen. The computer is then slower than usual, and when shutting down it always has a windows update to install. This all started a couple of months ago but I've never had chance to investigate the problem. Just some more updates: I managed to stop most of the services not in safe mode, but some say they can't be stopped, but it still freezes. The pc works in diagnostic startup, and selective startup.

Hi I tried to stop the services not running in safe mode, but I don't have enough time to stop them all before the computer freezes again. :S

Hi, I built my computer about 6 months ago, and at first I started to have a few problems with the computer crashing, but they seemed to stop. But now they have started up again, and it happens every time I turn my computer on. If I run the computer in normal mode, then after about 2 minutes, the computer freezes and I have to restart it. But this doesn't happen in safe mode, or safe mode with networking. I am using an older case so I was whether the computer could be overheating, but wanted to check if there could be any other problems before I went and bought one. Thanks for your help. Max.
