  1. Many thanks for your help dalo and merry xmas.
  2. Well, i was trying to play microsoft flight sim x which requires divx 9.1 or higher ? i've already upgraded the ram to suit, i suppose in reality i'd only need a mid level card thats capable of running the flight sim smoothly, i'm not a massive pc gamer but i really like the flight sims etc I suppose i'd want the best bang for the buck so to speak as i just dont game enough to warrant spending loads. Many thanks.
  3. Well i have just uprated the psu as the old one went kaput so i know i have some capacity there (old 300w new 500w). the monitor is 17" flatscreen. I believe there is space in the mobo for other cards i currently have two spare slots next to the soon to be removed modem card and then another similar slot slightly longer and set back a little furter from the pc casing. hope that makes sense. Do you have any tips or recommendations for which card to purchase or should i start that in a seperate thread? Thanks for any help.;)
  4. hi, theres no card in the slots there except for an old modem card (no longer used) do you think if i bought a card and installed it it may bring back my display ? i could do with a video card i think as the original game i was trying to run wouldnt work with my cuurrent (i presume on board) video device(s) and thats how this all started ! thanks again guys.;)
  5. Hi and thanks for your reply, i havent changed anything in the bios and to be honest i dont know what the onboard GPU is ? can you enlighten me please and i'll check. Many thanks.
  6. Hey all, have just retried starting in safe mode and the pc freezes whilst loading the drivers, the last line displayed is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windoes\system32\drivers\agpCPQ.sys It doesnt matter how long i leave the pc or which form of safe mode i start in. Hope this sheds some light to someone cos its total gobbledegook for me ! Thanks in advance:D
  7. Hi, had you been altering the settings for display drivers etc whilst installing your new card? I had inadvertently managed to disable my display adaptors whilst trying to make a pc game work and have a similar problem, advice so far has been to restart in safe mode to see if the display works then? Hope this may be of some help.
  8. Hi, yes i have tried booting in safe mode but it will not complete the startup no matter how long i leave it for. I'm away from my pc at the mo so cant tell you exactly what the pc says but it sticks on the same line each time and freezes..........
  9. Hi everyone, just wanted to say a big hello, as i'm a bit of a computer numpty i'll probably be spending a fair bit of time here picking the brains of the better learned members, of course i'll try to help all others where possible in future ! atb now back to your broken desktop !:D
  10. Hi, whilst trying to update my video drivers i managed to disable the display adaptor, now when my pc starts up i see the windows logo and startup bar but when the pc would normally show the desktop i see nothing ! aaargh ! I have an emachines 3028 tower running xp home, i wouldnt mind if the solution meant i had to reinstall the os (preinstalled) but i cant remember how to do this, the e machines help said i'd to reboot whilst holding f11 but this only leads to a startup screen for safe mode etc and not the system restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i promise not to meddle with things i dont understand in future ! Atb :D
