woodypvf Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 help please, every time I try to play black hawk down online my p.c. freezes when the ping time calculation reaches 84%. I've re-formated my drive and re-installed, I got in once but when I tried again the same happened. hard drive is 6 months old. using xp pro and aol 9.0 just bought battlefield 2 today and having problems with that also, but downloading seems to working fine. Hmmm, after playing quite a lot of online games I can only recommend you try the following first before loading up any online game: - Only have the essential programs running! Ideally, have no programs running apart from the game. - Turn off firewall (via Windows Control Panel or externally through your software, i.e Norton or McAfee) - Or fiddle with the firewall settings to get the right ports opened (Visit game website to find out which port numbers need to be open) :) - Make sure you have the right specifications for the game, right graphics card, RAM, etc Next, I recommend downloading the game patch. A patch is basically a fix for all the bugs that have been discovered after the game was released. Click this link and install it to your PC: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/blackhawkdownexp/download_ini.html?sid=6086865 I suggest restarting your PC after installing that patch. Where you say you are also having problems with Battlefield 2, I would also recommend updating that. I play Battlefield and I understand how out of date the game always is - it always needs the newest patches and it seems as though patches are being released quite frequently. When you say that it is giving you problems, this could be a firewall issue not letting the game communicate on certain ports. I doubt it would be anything wrong wth your machine as far as hardware is concerned, but dont rule it out. Possibilites include the graphics card or the processor.
