Guest Jeff@unknown.com Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 This has to do with Windows XP critical update notifications, not Office. I installed MS Office 2007 and because I did not like it, I uninstalled it and went back to my older office version. After the uninstall I rebooted as required. Just now I booted up my PC and because I receive automatic update warnings I noticed the yellow exclamation mark shield and when I opened it I saw it had 3 security updates - all of which were for "Microsoft Office System 2007" - which is no longer installed on my PC! I know I can tell MS update to hide these but my question what is left on my PC that makes MS think I still have Office 2007 installed when I do not? And - how do I get rid of it? Thanks. Jeff

Guest Jeff@unknown.com Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Re: Critical updates for non-existent MS Office 2007! I should have kept a record of the 3 KB numbers but I did not. I used regedit to delete all references to office 2007 and the update notice disappeared. So I can not quote the KB numbers but they were all for components of Office XP. Anyway, now the problem is gone. The uninstall obviously did not remove registry references to office 2007. Any number of updates that say they're for Office 2007 may apply if an earlier Office version (or component) is still installed, Jeff. It was gone but MS Update wanted to install all the patches. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address.
