Guest bearshop Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 i have windows xp, sp 2 with all the latest security updates. for about a month now when i log in, the screeen only shows the background and no icons. this problem occurs on 1 our 3 startups. any ideas. my desktop is set to 'show icons' i also see that there is a hot fix for this problem id 948277. does it work. i am leery to try as this is not yet a hard problem. i can get task manager up with the blank screen but it shows only 46 or my 62 processes running. explorer.exe is not running with the blank screen up. is this problem related to a recent XP security update. i am thinking the problem may be related to a security update problem.
Guest bearshop Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 RE: lost xp desktop icons this is bearshop. i also ran my antivirus software, spysweeper, adaware, threatfire, ms security analyzer, and spybot and showed no problems. i run AV and spyware software at least weekly and keep current with updates.
