I am using a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista Home Premium and for a long time now have had problems shutting down/hibernating/sleeping etc.

It is too much of a problem and I am now going mad!

I have been told that programs are running in the background and to close them, but which ones do I close and how do I do this?

It goes to shutdown, then the disk drive makes a noise and it re-boots eventually, but then takes ages to allow me to use again.

It also wipes all of my saved stuff; like homepage, log-ins, passwords etc.

Please help before I throw it out the window!:mad::mad:

Hi and welcome to ExTS.

Try running MBAM from here:

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Download > update and run it.

If it finds anything post the log here and one of the security experts will advise you further.

Thanks KenB, it found 61 problems and (I think) sorted them.

This thread will be the first to know if it hasn't!

Thanks again for the advice.

Ok, ran it again and no problems were found.

Laptop was closing down perfectly until today and now it is up to its old tricks again. Ran MBAM again and no problems.

Is it just something I have to put up with (shouldn't really be). The most worrying thing is that when it keeps re-booting (at least three times before closing), the laptop gets quite hot.

Suggest that you post in Malware Infection Removal forum and explain what you have done so far.

Put a link back to this thread for reference.

You need to make sure your system is clean.

Hi again KenB, I've tried and tried to post in the other forum but for some reason I can't. Should I put the info here then try and copy the whole lot to that forum (because I seem able to post on this forum!).
