Skyblazer252 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I have a laptop, and as I was listening to music while unplugged it ran out off battery and shut off. When I cut it on and logged onto my account it took a good minute to go through the welcome screen with the revolving wheel. But when it got done with that it went to a black screen where are able to move the mouse, but you aren't able to see the background, task bar, start menu, or desktop icons. So basically I wasn't able to access anything except the task manager. I went to the processes tab to see if anything was running and none of the major applications were not running. So I shut down the computer and put it into safe mode with networking and tried to restore the system twice. It didn't change the outcome either time. So now I don't know what to do. What should I do? I'm broke so I can't format the disk and purchase new software. but I don't really need to keep any of the programs or files I have on my computer. I just want it fixed. So please if there is a way to fix my computer please just let me know what I can do. Please! And soon because I need to complete an assignment for school. Quote
KenB Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration" from the list where you selected Safe Mode ? Skyblazer252 Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 It's not on the list. I have Windows Vista. The list only contains Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, and Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Quote
KenB Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 it's not on the list. I have Windows Vista. I have Vista Home Basic too - I have 10 or so options. One is Last Known ........ Safe Mode with Networking etc etc. Are you sure there are only 3 options ? Then try some registry fix program. With the greatest respect ... Registry "fix" programs are not a good idea. If you use a Registry Cleaner and delete the wrong key you could render your system inoperable. They cause more harm than good. Skyblazer252 Posted May 30, 2011 Author Posted May 30, 2011 I still can't find what list you are talking about. When I recovery my computer it only gives me 3 options other than to start normally. I'll try not to use Registry Cleaner programs again, but how do I get to the list you are talking about? Quote
RandyL Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Are you tapping the F8 key at startup to get to the Advanced Startup Options? Quote We are all members helping other members.
