lainey Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Just bought a brand new laptop from Staples, this is all a bit new to me, my ex always did things like this, when I was setting it up it asked me to enter in a username, I went to type it in, I must have pressed some keys and then it went on to the next screen and wouldn't let me go back, it is now asking me to enter the username but I don't know what it is!! omg can't believe I have done this was trying to be so careful as I am not technically minded. How do I find it out or reset it :( feel so stupid!! Thank you in advance Quote
KenB Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi lainey and welcome to ExTS I am sorry that you appear to be locked out of your laptop. asking me to enter the username but I don't know what it is Surely this would be related to your name - as the request "Enter User Name" implies. At what stage is it asking for your user name? When you are booting up? Normally when you have set up a user name Windows remembers this and creates a profile for you. Can you actually get into Windows or are you locked out? I had a friend who did something similar - it took her all afternoon trying different permutations of what she thought was her password. She eventually hit on the right one. This is all I can suggest - other than to take it back to Staples and ask them for their help. If you are locked out ...... Our problem here is that we have no way of checking that this is actually your machine. I am not suggesting that it isn't - just that we have no means of checking. I will let the admins make the final decission but by-passing security features is usually not something that forums like this can usually assist with. RandyL Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi. As Ken said most forums cannot help with password issues for just that reason. Ken asked you a couple questions to see if this might be a case where we can assist. As it is brand new a reinstall of Windows would of course solve this issue. If we knew the make, model and number we might be able to find out your recovery or reinstall options. Do you have the Windows disks by any chance? Quote We are all members helping other members.
