Guest TC Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 A few months ago, for no apparent reason, Windows began restarting everytime I logged in. I had not installed any new software or hardware. I managed to create a new user account, which seemed to work fine. After about a month the same problem occured. This problem has continued ever since. Every new account I create works for about a month, then Windows restarts everytime I sign in. How do I stop this? *OS is XP SP2
Guest Gerry Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Re: Corrupt user accounts, Windows restarts TC .. Please post a copy of the Error Reports appearing in the System log in Event Viewer relating to the problem. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. -- Hope this helps. If the corruption is a regular thing, this can indicate a subtle hardware failure - RAM or hard disk. So the next question is, how current are your backups? HTH -pk
