Guest Ibex Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 OS: WinXp Pro SP3. Installed Profile Hive CleanUp service. It is shown in Add or Remove Program panel as well as in Services (Local), Sysinternals Process Explorer and Autoruns. However, in Windows Task Manager- Process tab -uphclean.exe does not show; I thought it should. Am I wrong? Is uphclean.exe running?

It is a service that you can see when typing "net start" at the Command Prompt.
Guest John John (MVP) Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Re: User Profile Hive CleanUp If it's not showing in the Task Manager's Processes list it isn't running. Run the Services Management Console (enter services.msc in the Start Menu | Run box) and see if the "User Profile Hive Cleanup" service is running. You can start it there. The service should be set to "Automatic" startup type. John Ibex wrote: > OS: WinXp Pro SP3. > Installed Profile Hive CleanUp service. I see what you mean. Some of hose would be run inside of Services.exe or one of the svchost.exe. John
Guest Ibex Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Re: User Profile Hive CleanUp Here is a complete list (ImageNames) as displayed in Windows Task Manager - Processes tab (Limited User Account). Image Name User Name TimeZone.exe Ibex egui.exe Ibex MouseElf.exe Ibex igfxpers.exe Ibex MSASCui.exe Ibex notepad.exe Ibex explorer.exe Ibex winlogon.exe SYSTEM csrss.exe SYSTEM taskmgr.exe Ibex wlmail.exe Ibex opera.exe Ibex In Windows Task Manager - Processes tab (Admin Account) the Image Name/User Name: uphclean.exe SYSTEM is listed. Does this mean that User Profile Hive CleanUp utility is running in both Admin *and* Limited User accounts? I would have thought that uphclean.exe would show in Windows Task Manager - Processes tab (Limited User Account) as well. Guest John John (MVP) Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Re: User Profile Hive CleanUp Either that is an antiquated NT Resource Kit command line utility or it's a third party utility, in any case it isn't a standard Windows XP service and it isn't really relevant to the point that Pegasus made. Why would you need to have this running on the machine?
