i think i downloaded a virus and now i have black screen with flashing cursor in left cormer when trying to start up in xp, i have tried to formate and still getting the black screen have benn trying to fix since last night and not getting anywhere do i need new hard drive or can i fix this pls help me very tired

How did you do this?

From the installation CD ?

How far did you get?

Any Error messages ?

 

If you have XP you can try a Repair Install - this will keep the data on the drive .......assuming that XP is still on the drive.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Please try and answer Kens questions and post your answers. In addition to that, does your computer make a beep noise when you first power up...and if it does, is it a single beep or two or three beeps in succession?

 

Can you boot into Safe mode (Tap F8 on boot)

I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :)

yes with the installation CD when it finishes and says it going to copy filesm it reboots and black screen comes back with cursor flashing in left corner, i tried to reformatt twice and still the same, no error messages and how do a repair install and i will try that :) Thank you Edited by larrylava

it makes 1 beep , what it says when i reboot is auto config please wait and then black screen with flashing cursor, just tried F8 and same thing

Sorry - I missed your reply it was in the middle of 3.

 

Don't worry about the BIOS - you are getting one beep - which is normal.

Repair Install....

As long as you got nowhere with the formatting it is worth a try.
