Guest Sean Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I set the scan disk to run at start up on a XP Professional system. At start up, the scan disk ran, but once it finishes, the system freezes and will not boot into Windows. If I manually stop the scan disk from running at start up, it freeze. When trying to boot into Safe Mode, it freezes as well. Is there another way to get in Windows?
Guest Gerry Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Re: Scan disk issue Sean Please use the correct terminology. Scandisk was a tool used with Windows 98. Almost certainly you have been using chkdsk a different utility, albeit a similar one for use with Windows XP. Is this a desktop or a laptop? What is the computer make and model? What type of Windows XP CD do you have? How is it described on the CD? Do you have another desktop computer? What is the hard drive make? Do you have your important data files backed up to external media. If not your priority may be to recover your data before trying to boot the computer. One boot option you could try is Last Known Good Configuration, which is described in this Knowledge Base Article: A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us -- Hope this helps.
