URL shortcut errors

Have several shortcuts on the desktop linking to different sites that I

want to check on frequently. These have been functional for the past

year with no problems.

Two days ago, for some unknown reason (no new s/w installed or

reconfig'd firewall, etc. ) whenever I click on a shortcut, an error

message pops up stating that the URL can't be found. A couple

of seconds later, it opens to the web site. Have deleted the links,

rebooted, made new ones but the same thing happens.

Any ideas as to why this is happening ??

thanks

ray

Hi ray

This sounds like a problem that's been around for some time now, with a

bug in the FF 2.0.0.x installer causing some file types to have garbled

settings. I thought it had been fixed :-(

Have a look at this link and scroll down to the post by "jscher2000",

which explains how to fix it, with helpful screenshots:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=523670

As well as changing the settings for HTTP and HTTPS, as the post

suggests, I changed HTM and HTML too, as I couldn't open shortcuts to

locally-stored files either.

Hope this helps and works for you. Let us know how it goes :-)

[Yes, yes, I know you're using FF but tell me anyway, please.]

Have you tried?...

1. Making IE your default browser; and/or

2. Upgrading to Firefox v3.x.
