Could somebody please recommend a nice, free program that repairs XP registry?

It's called a format & reinstall.

Free, yes. Nice, no. I haven't found a 3rd party registry cleaner that I

would trust on any of my PC's. But, if you must use one, create a System

Restore point before you install and run it.

What is it about your registry that is broken, what needs to be repaired?

there aren't any good free ones out there - it's a remarkably complicated

process, 'cleaning' the registry - but i've always sworn by Registry

Mechanic. it's a cheap purchase (20$), and i've been using it for several

years now. it's totally worth the money.

Totally worth the money? Why? What good is it?

There's no such thing, free or otherwise. What makes you think your

registry even needs repairing?

No, it's not a "remarkably complicated process". It's actually rather

straight forward; it's just a lot of details to have to know and nuances

to keep track of.

RM used to be OK; haven't seen it in quite awhile so it's use amongst

the machines I see at least is dwindling for whatever reason.

last time i checked, that's what i call complicated =)

yeah, not many other people use it, but i've never had a problem with it and

it picks up issues that other programs miss. of course, when it comes to

cleaner programs, you can take your pick - it's pretty much just whatever you

happen to use, since there's so many and the difference is minimal at best.

When your car has a flat, you don't take it to a windshield replacement

shop.

What about your registry is broken?

I puzzled. If a registry was indeed "broken," how would one ever know?
