Guest Sharpie Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Wondering if someone could help me? My computer re-booted itself and when it came back on it said "Your computer is infected" there's a red ball with an X in the middle on my task bar. When I put my mouse on it says: Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection! It is recommended us special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware! I do not have an anti virus installed at the moment, I had to uninstall Norton 6 months ago because it slowed my computer to the point that I could not use it anymore. I'm running WinXP and several people told me I would be okay without it. One of the messages said I had a Trojan Can you help me? SharpieSS
Guest sgopus Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 RE: Computer Infection more than likely your infected with Malware. do a search for hijackthis, read the instructions carefully. Also check out spybot S&D and adaware. Do not respond to that request currently on your pc, that's an infection trying to get installed, you really need an Antivirus installed, also look at a software firewall. It is called a "rogue" because it pretends to be one of the Good Guys when it really is a Bad Guy. Goodness knows what else your machine is infested with besides that since you've been running without an antivirus. Even though I don't like Norton products, I'm willing to bet part of the reason your machine was slow was because of malware, not just because of Norton. Probably you should just back up your data and do a clean install of Windows but if you want to try and clean things up, here you go: Go through these general malware removal steps systematically - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe Mode. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your malware here: Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html When all else fails, get guided help. Choose one of the specialty forums listed at the first link. Register and read its posting FAQ. DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS. Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech; suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ

Guest Venus Diva 3733 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Computer Infection - Frozen Computer Infection - Frozen I have a computer that is infected - I have Windows XP Professional on it. It does not have any service packs on it. It was a "hand me down" computer so I do not have the Windows XP disk and before it locked up - I was not able to get a verification on the copy. It was working just slowly with a lot of pop ups and rogues. I ran Avast on it. It deleted all the files in programs that were installed. I did not delete any files that were in the system 32 folder although there were some that were infected. Now I can get the computer to come all the way on with the icons and everything but I cannot get anything to open at all. I can click on an icon and it will highlight like it wants to try to open it but then it gets stuck. You only post your crap here about me because it's all you have left. You have sent emails to everybody including Microsoft about me. You think you deserve some kind of respect from them because of your MVP status and when you don't get it you start crying like a baby. You are just as bad as Leythos the stalker. Guest Leythos Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Re: Computer Infection - Frozen Re: Computer Infection - Frozen In article <YA99k.1401$np7.1281@flpi149.ffdc.sbc.com>, toidi@tpap.com says... > You are just as bad as > Leythos the stalker. There you go again, you were doing fine until you had to mention my name Chris. The fact is that a number of authors have posted that you've pirated their code, that vendors have said your site has no permission to host their files, that you've been exposed with snippets of inserted code from authors batch files that were only added to prove you stole the code. You have also created a LOT OF FILTH and exposed these groups and kids to it by posting links to YOUR SITE all over Usenet. You are a sick person, stalking me all over Usenet, even registering a domain name in my name and posting email addresses with my name.... You mention me in groups I've never been to, and when I get reports of it, you claim I'm stalking you - but you MENTION MY NAME without me having been to this groups, causing me to have to defend my name. You have no honor, you impersonate good people, you've even been busted for it by people that have posted the headers to prove it was you impersonating others. No respectable person believes your crap. Any time you post my name and I see it I'm going to repeat this - your lack of honor and ethics is well known and as long as you keep it up I'm going to make sure that new people see you for the unethical, disrespectful, dishonorable person you are. Take my name out of your messages. -- Leythos - spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 to email me) Public Service Warning: Learn about PCButts before you trust: http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t513604-author-of-removeit.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pcbutts1+thief

Guest Ms. L MVP Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Re: Computer Infection - Frozen Re: Computer Infection - Frozen Why don't you tell everyone now what you think is illegal or stolen on my site that way I can embarrass you now instead of later. Make sure you post proof so that it is not your word against mine. Come on crybaby show everybody what you've been crying about. Make sure you post which files you say are dangerous and will harm computers and explain why then post the proof from actual users of my files who's system it broke. Google is your friend make sure you use that excellent search tool. Put up or shut up. -- Stalking is a Crime Stalking charges are serious and almost every state now has a strict stalking law.
