Problems installing RSAT tools for TS remote management:

Recommended Posts

Posted

I want to remotely manage my terminal servers. I tried to install the RSAT

tools on my 32bit Vista Enterprise SP1 computer. When I run the install it

tells me "the update does not apply to your system".

This does not make sense. I have the required OS, and SP1.

The update is not installed already (I checked).

I am loggedin with admin permissions

Firewall is off

I tried to use wusa.exe at command line - it does not work.

I tried using the expand command and then packager - does not work

I get no errors in the event log

Windows updates are working

GPO CSE is not installed (I saw on the net where someone had luck turning

this off) so this is not the issue.

Anyone else having issues with RSAT tools? What am I missing here?

Thanks!

Re: Problems installing RSAT tools for TS remote management:

Though you might have already done it, make sure you are installing the x86

version of the package and not the x64 one -

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9FF6E897-23CE-4A36-B7FC-D52065DE9960&displaylang=en.

Also, make sure your system is fully updated.

Can you send me the output of "winver"?

Also, try posting this to microsoft.public.windows.msi and see if someone

from the installer team can help.
