Guest Richard Fangnail Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I have XP and I occasionally get the Apple Software Update dialog box. The last time it happened, it was after I'd closed my browser. Why does it happen?

Guest Richard Fangnail Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Re: "Apple Software Update" dialog box in XP I just discovered in Add/Remove Programs, there is a program called Apple Software Updater. I'm not sure if there's any harm in removing it. I'm not sure if I even need it. I have Itunes and Quicktime and they are the latest versions.
Guest Richard Fangnail Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Re: "Apple Software Update" dialog box in XP I went into Itunes, Edit>Preferences and unchecked "Check for updates automatically." Is that enough to stop the Apple Software Updater program from showing up?

Is that enough to stop the Apple Software Updater > program from showing up? Hi Richard, Yes, that's enough. Apple thought it would add the Updater and install whatever it wants on user machines. That's how it was able to install Safari on thousands (if not millions) of machines, most of whom didn't even know it. Isn't it enough to be hounded by iTunes for new versions? Now we have the "Updater" to update ALL the Apple programs. How convenient! -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address.
