PC Boot freezes at "Loading Operating System"

Hello,

This is my first post but I have just spent some timereading other threads on here looking for a solution and you seem like aknowledgeable and helpful bunch so hopefully you might help me with what isbecoming a bit of a nightmare.

Last night I left my PC running to process some ratherlengthy queries in Access. This morningwhen I return to my office the PC is stuck at “Loading Operating System…”prompt during boot. Now I am eithergetting stuck at the BIOS splash screen or this prompt and can’t seem to getany further.

My PC has evolved over time but is basically homebuilt. The last upgrade was about 10days ago when I added the SSD RAID array and reinstalled Windows. Since then al has been OK, the only issue isit has frozen at the BIOS splash screen a couple of times and requiredcompletely powering down to reboot.

The spec is:

· OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

· CPU: AMD Phenom Quad core 955 Black Edition (wasclocked at 3.5ghz now back to 3, default 3.2)

· MB: Gigabyte 890FXA

· Mem: 8gb (4x2gb) Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz

· GPU: 2x HIS HD5870 (Xfire)

· HDD1: 2xCorsair Pro 3 SSD 64gb in RAID 0

· HDD2: 2x Velociraptors 300GB in RAID 0

· PSU: Coolermaster Silent Gold Pro 800w

This morning my PC is repeatedly getting stuck at BIOSsplash screen and I am struggling to get in and adjust the settings. If I don’t hit delete to enter the BIOS itgoes to the “Loading Operating System…” prompt and hangs.

I had managed to get into Windows Repair on the DVD and itsaid it could find no OS installed. Whenhunting for the RAID controller drivers on the MB drivers disk I noticed it hadfound both RAID arrays before I even added any drivers but my primary disk (SSDRAID 0) was showing as disk E and my Raptors (data only) as drive C despite HD bootorder in BIOS being set to 1)SSDs 2)Raptors

If I tried loading drivers for the RAID it told me that theyhad failed.

I have now disconnected the Raptors and flashed theBIOS(again) , removed all peripherals other than USB mouse and keyboard,disabled everything I don’t need in BIOS (onboard sound, USB3, ESATA etc..) I have changed the GPU peg to the default (Iused peg 1 rather than 0 for cooling purposes) and still I am stuffed.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Fixed!

 

I figured I'd update with my solution incase anyone else finds this thread and has the same issue (I hate seeing forums with details of issues and no fix)

 

I ran the comand prompt by loading system repair from Windows install disk ad then used the following

bootrec /fixmbr

this will fix the masterboot files

bootrec /fixboot

this writes a new boot sector onto the system partition

 

Not sure which fixed it but one of them did!!

Hanging of Windows 7 operating system during start up may be because of the fragmented files in the hard drive. The fragmented hard drive may affect the working of the entire system. The scattered bits of files in the hard drive results in the hanging of the system during start up. The defragmentation of the files in the hard disk is the solution for this issue.

I just wanted to add to this- Smithy, you're the man. This worked like a charm for me, after three bouts of attempting the Windows 7 repair utility.
