brawling83 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Hi, I have a Samsung X05. It runs XP Professional. Unfortunately I cannot get the wireless to work on it. My computer can detect wireless networks, however when I come to try and connect to my network (which is password protected) the message I get is "Windows is unable to connect to selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again". When I do refresh the list, my network still appears there. On the networks connection page, the wireless connection shows the following: When I click on the repair button, it will disable and then enable the connection, but then comes up with the error message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be completed: Connecting to the wireless network". Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this problem and connect to the internet wirelessly? Thanksnetwork pica.bmp Quote

KenB Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) Hi, Try connecting to one of your neighbours' networks. Even if it is security enabled you should get as far as being asked for the security key without error. brawling83 Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Hi KenB, Thanks again for this. The instructions say that I need to enter the "service set identifier (SSID) of the access point". Could you tell me where I can find this! Cheers, Ben Quote
KenB Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hi, The SSID is the name broadcast by your router to identify your network. Right click on the monitor icon ( bottom right ) and the available networks are listed there. Your SSID is shown in this list. brawling83 Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Hi, Thanks again! I'm hoping one more thing and then I'll be done! When I try to enter the WEP code as in the instructions, I get the following message: "The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters". This is causing me a bit of bother as my WEP password is 12 digits long! Any ideas? Thanks, Ben Quote
KenB Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Which Service Pack do you have ? Start > Run ....type in ......winver .......ENTER Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
KenB Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I am now unsure why you are getting that message. You should be using SP3. It is available from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en Cany you ping the router? Start > Run .....type in cmd ......ENTER At the prompt type .....ping 192.168.1.1 You should get packets sent and packets received.
