Guest Gilles Ganault Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Hello TS clients can have any printer on their end, so how should I set things up on the TS server so they users can print without any problem? Thank you.

If you want "Any" printer to work you will need a third party printing software like ThinPrint. If you want to stick with a compatible list check out the Windows 2003 products at http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=label%20 moncho

What I need to know, is whether I need to do anything on the server so that the user will be able to print just fine when he's running our applications on a TS server? Do I need to set something up, or does the RDP protocol handles everything automagically? Thank you.

You need to make sure that you allow printer redirection on the server and printer redirection in the Remote Desktop Connection on the users desktop. If both of those items are setup, then make sure that the user is using the MS Printer driver for their installed printer. If all that is setup, it should work "magically." You can google search this newsgroup ("printer redirection") and you will find many many many posts about TS printing. moncho moncho

Actually, any printer is *NOT* fine... Not every printer driver is compatible with Terminal Services. The biggest problem printing under TS is printer drivers. If you can't control which printers people use, than you should seriously consider, as moncho, suggests, a 3rd party program like ThinPrint or ScrewDriver.... -- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services

If possible and what I have come to learn from experience with printers, I HIGHLY recommend you have your users get a printer that accepts PCL commands. Using any printer that accepts PCL 3, 5, or 6 commands allows you to use the MS generic HP LaserJet driver, although, you may have to do some printer mapping. moncho
