You cannot add them to a Windows AD Domain. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Jeremy Schubert" <jscc@nospam.hotmail.com> wrote in message news:2578A2C8-BA16-4CD4-A0CF-482E483420F5@microsoft.com... >I have to add some Macs to my 2003 domain. Guest Jeremy Schubert Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Re: Macs OK, so like Win 9x, they can't be members of a domain. But can I enforce my Mac users to have to logon the Macs using their regular Windows authentication? No. Win9x could not join a domain but it was domain "aware" and could interact with the domain and gain domain functionality in a way that made it "almost" a domain member. Macs cannot even do that much. The Macs would be more like Linux or some other flavor of Unix where there just is no centralized login natively. With Linux there were things like PAM and other attempts to provide better interactivity, but I never saw it ever really work right and it still required a matching Local user account in any case. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- Understanding the ISA 2004 Access Rule Processing http://www.isaserver.org/articles/ISA2004_AccessRules.html Troubleshooting Client Authentication on Access Rules in ISA Server 2004 http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/1/8/918ed2d3-71d0-40ed-8e6d-fd6eeb6cfa07/ts_rules.doc Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server: Partners http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/partners/default.mspx Microsoft ISA Server Partners: Partner Hardware Solutions http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/edgesecurity/partners/hardwarepartners.mspx ----------------------------------------------------- > "Phillip Windell" <philwindell@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:u77jOzI2IHA.5472@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> You can add them to the network because the network is a physical thing. >> You cannot add them to a Windows AD Domain. >> >> -- >> Phillip Windell >> http://www.wandtv.com >> >> The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or >> Microsoft, >> or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. >> ----------------------------------------------------- >> >> "Jeremy Schubert" <jscc@nospam.hotmail.com> wrote in message >> news:2578A2C8-BA16-4CD4-A0CF-482E483420F5@microsoft.com... >>>I have to add some Macs to my 2003 domain. Yep, exactly :-) But even before they changed the OS architecture it was still a "similar" situation with OS9 and earlier. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. -----------------------------------------------------
