Guest Al Dykes Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I've got Java 6 update 4 and Java 6 update 5 on the system. It's an old laptop and I need the disk space. Can I uninstall Update 5 in control panel? Thanks -- Al Dykes News is something someone wants to suppress, everything else is advertising. - Lord Northcliffe, publisher of the Daily Mail

The Java developers have specifically designed their update installation routines to leave older Java releases in place; this way they don't have to take the trouble to make the newer versions backwards-compatible. A lot of the more complex web-based applications - especially those connecting to Oracle databases - are written for specific versions of Java and often break once the user installs a newer version and removes the older one. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot
