domain computers to have same wallpaper - Group Policy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am trying to use a Group Policy to set all domain computers desktop

wallpaper to the company's logo.

Now I have managed to adjust the settings accordingly using the Group Policy

Editor in MMC. Problem is that even if I do a "gpudate /force" along with

multiple restarts the selected wallpaper does not display. When I go into

display settings though the wallpaper I want is actually shown as been the

one in use. Now I started messing around and for some strange reason when I

change the screen resolution the wallpaper I set via group policy then

displays correctly. I have double checked this with other wallpapers as well

and the same is true... the change is only seen when the screen resolution

is changed. Now whilst I'm happy that I have gotten this right... it am

loathed to have to go around adjusting the screen res for the 200+ computers

we have on our domain.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how this "wallpaper" policy can

either be implemented properly on a "gpupdate" or restart of the computer?

Chers and thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

Whereabouts are you storing the wallpaper that you are displaying?

I've found this generally only works if you have the wall paper copied to

the local machine somewhere.

Re: domain computers to have same wallpaper - Group Policy

Using XP Pro on the client end. I have done testing on my PC and stored the

file on C:\.

I have created an OU within Active Directory and created a Group Policy

called "Wallpaper" which is applied to my test OU. Won't know if it works

until Monday as using a VPN connection to the corporate network doesn't seem

to get the settings going.

It works on my local machine... but only if I do the change of the the

screen resolution.

I have saved the company logo to a network share on the domain controller

which all users have access to.

People want their own wallpaper. You have no right to dictate what wallpaper

they have on their PCs.

Re: domain computers to have same wallpaper - Group Policy

We don't use roaming profiles for all users. Most users have access to their

own PC's or desktops. The only place currently using roaming profiles is our

call centre because most users login to different PC's in the same area.

Cheers,

PS: I hope that tomorrow I will be able to see if the Wallpaper policy works

or not.

Not very helpful, and i would have thought being its in a corporate

environment and the PCs are owned by the company that there's every right....?

Anyway i think that should work, but mostly if i set wallpapers i set it in

the roaming profiles before the user is created.

Cheers
