JayCee6828 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Does Microsoft word read ODT files produced in LibreOffice. I have produced some documents in LibreOffice, chess games as it happens, and the main text is in frames with 3 columns. If I save it as a .DOC file then read it with LibreOffice the columns have gone so it does not look right. As I don't have Microsoft Office I can't test it myself but I wondered if Microsoft Office would read the ODT fles correctly and have columns in the page. I did try to attach the .ODT file but can't seem to do do. Quote
KenB Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 From what I can discover - the answer is "no". You can, however, open them if you d/l and install Sun ODF Plugin from here: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin/index.jsp Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Hi, Sorry about the link - you naturally assume that the parent site will have a working link. :) This one is another option: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Other-Office-Tools/Sun-ODF-Plugin-for-Microsoft-Office.shtml Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted June 15, 2011 ExTS Admin Posted June 15, 2011 On checking my Office 2007, i can save a document in a ODT format. So presumably Word would be able to open them. But it seems this was only added to 2007 and 2010 versions of Word. Quote Member of:UNITE
KenB Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Thanks for the extra information Starbuck - I have Office 2003 on my XP machine ( Open Office on this one ) and I found nothing relating to .ODT for later versions. The plugin works with Microsoft Office 2007 This is a quote from the parent site ( see original link ). Odd that they should suggest installing if office 2007 is compatible with .ODT anyway.
