"Folder options" not working

Recommended Posts

I run an XP-Sp2 with all the upgrades that Microsoft has to offer. It is all

automatically loaded and installed.

However, the icon "Folder options" in the control panel is disabled. But I

can get to the Folder options from any folder.

But when I open a folder and go:

Tools\folder options\files types,

all my files are there but I can't work on them because the buttons:

NEW, DELETE, CHANGE, RESTORE, are all disabled, grayed out .

Can any one please help?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What

anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall

(if any)?

Re: "Folder options" not working

Hi PA Bear

I have the usual Microsoft all around protection

and I have Symantec anti virus that when installed, had also firewall but

once the Microsoft firewall came it apparently kicked out the Symantec fire

wall because I can not find it now nor am I missing it. The MS Firewall seem

to do a good job

Thanks

Re: "Folder options" not working

I have new that are half good.

Someone gave me this link: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

and it contain 400 fixes for windows.

I tried fix # 368 and it restored the "folder option" icon in the control

panel. Now it can reach the folder option page. BUT;

The activities buttons such as : NEW, DELETE, CHANGE, RESTORE, are still

dead.

And in that treasure of 400 fixes I can't find any that will do it.

In fact I am scared to touch a button that is not clear to me so not to

damage the entire computer.

Re: "Folder options" not working

Dear Kelly

I executed the right hand side of line 241 as you said. But no luck.

What I don't understand is what you mean by "Merge" ?

Merging what line with what line?

And how you merge two lines when each of them seem to be a program or an

activator all its own.

I am sure I didn't do the right job, so please come back for more

Many thanks

Re: To Kelly from Kelly-korner

Re: To Kelly from Kelly-korner

Dear Kelly

This matter of "Folder option" inaccessibility seem to baffle many experts.

However; I was told that this is only a matter of access and permission

that I may not have.

Since this is my own machine, No network, No one has any business with my

machine,

then I think I should remove all access impediment. But I don't know how to

remove the impediment without also opening

the machine to any outsider such as those virus writers.

Do you have in your magic page of 400 solutions, any line that can remove

any limitations and open my computer up for me only, and keep out

outsiders?

Or maybe you can tell me how to do that manually?

Thanks

Janet
