I am very new to terminal server. Is it possible to set up a Windows 2003

server with terminal services so that different users get different desktops

/ programs available?

For instance, I'd like to set it up so that my accounting staff members can

access our accounting software, and that my hr staff members can access our

hr software, but accounting staff can't get hr software, etc.

Thanks.

Re: different desktops

You Can do this with Group Policy and giving the different users groups the

different desktops needed is one way.

Can GPO be used even on a lone, workgroup-based W2003 server, ie.

without AD at all?

Thank you.

You can find detailed instructions here:

How can I configure different TS desktops, based on user group

membership?

No, GPO's are a domain feature. You can use the local policy on the

TS to configure some aspects of the server, but you won't be able to

use multiple policies nor security filtering, and both are necessary

to achieve what the OP asked for.
