Alright I'll cut right to it. I recently bought a new pc and run windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) on it. Now today I was trying to download something with a size of 6.3 gb. Now I'm familiar with the different ways a hard drive can be formatted (FAT16/FAT32/NTFS). I can say that I'm sure both the drives I've tried it on (internal and external) are formatted as NTFS.

My question is; why is it that the file size limit is still 4 gb while I've formatted it to NTFS already. Oh yeah, the internal one was NTFS from the start already.

I really hope somebody can give me a clear answer, because in '93 4 gb may have seemed like alot. But these days...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Timo. Welcome to FPCH.

I know IE7 HAS A 4GIG limit.

I don't think there is a limit with IE8.

I have downloaded 13+GIGS in one hit without a problem.

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

I'm downloading through torrents. It just got even weirder though. I finished downloading another game with a size of over 7 gb. You see I've had this problem before when I was still using my macbook.

Vuze tells me I should visit their wiki to see what the problem is. There it states that my disk is formatted as FAT32, wich it isn't.

I'm really confused now since the first 2 files I tried to download wich were bigger than 4 gb gave the same error and now the third one downloads without any problem.

Sorry to make this even more difficult for you, hope you're still able to help me out.

P.S. Thanks for the welcome ;)

Unfortunately I don't think FPCH can offer further advice as it would be against the rules thus;

No advice or help will be offered with regard to P2P (Peer to Peer, torrents etc) programs or software obtained via that medium unless a member specifically states that they require help on removing such software.

Why is that? The downloading part isn't even the problem here. The problem lies with the drives and the way their formatted, as far as I know at least. This problem has nothing to do with any illegal activities.

Sorry about that, but regarding the copyright laws, we have absolutely no idea or proof that what you are downloading is actually legal or not. If we were to be seen giving assistance to what may turn out later to be illegal downloading, we would also be liable in a court of law. Hope you understand.

If what you're saying is true 90% of this forum will make you liable in the court of law. Helping someone install a newer version of windows will make hem be able to illegally download (faster), helping him install his new dvd writer will help him in illegally distributing copyright protected copies. We can go on for hours like this.

Thanks for your time anyway, just come up with some better bullshít next time.

You are Banned.

Even if you don't understand or agree with the help offered, there's no excuse for comments like that.

I'm sure you'll find another site that will put up with this type of out burst.... but we won't.
