Amongst the many updates I receive automatically on my computer I get security updates for Microsoft Windows and they are now preventing me accessing the internet. The only way I can access the net is to keep deleting the new updates and restarting the computer. Any help please? Not sure if it’s relevant but I use Internet Explorer 8 (that I would like to stick with). Edited by sighthound

That obviously should not be happening.

What error messages are you getting and what Firewall do you use?

The computer states there is no problem with internet connection but no pages are showing. Not sure about Firewall but I have Norton installed. That said I have just clicked on the Norton icon and nothing is opening?

Useful to know that me thinks. Just restored computer to settings on 05 May (earliest point on list that came up). Will now get rid of Norton as that does not seem to be working correctly and will replace with Microsoft Essentials that I am told is good?

Well it's not bad mate but I use Avast and if you absolutely want to keep IE then that's your choice but I prefer Firefox.

Can you now access the Net?

Cannot get rid of Norton! I have clicked to uninstall it on 'Uninstall or change a program' page and a box comes up seeking permission to continue. I click to continue and nothing happens.

Thanks Sighthound and you're more than welcome mate.

Do you have any form of anti malware protection as well?
