Canon Pixma MP640. Dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP. Thomson router.

I have a Canon Pixma MP640 printer that I am trying to set up for wireless printing.

I have used my laptop through a router for months for internet access, so no problem there.

I followed the printer set up instructions for wireless printing and it confirms that LAN connection to router is established. It says 'Thomson router connected, wirelss connection established,' etc.

However when I then go to my laptop and try to print, it says "printer is off line".

If I connect via USB lead, the printer works just fine.

Am I missing something simple here???

Hi Wolf

Thanks for the link. I've now been on and downloaded updated drivers and tried a few other things but still getting 'Printer not on line', when I try to print wirelessly.

The strange fact is, my other half can print wireless with no problem. When I look at printers installed on her laptop, she has Canon MP640, just like me and also same again but with 'Copy 1' after it. When she tries to print to the first one ... no go, just like me. However if she selects printer with Copy 1 after it, it prints out no problem, wirelessly. Where she got Copy 1 from I don't know, neither does she. We have had the printer for over a year and it used to run wirelesly on BT home hub from both of our laptops .... but having moved house we are now on a different router/service provider. Doesn't seem to have cocked up her print abilities ... just mine.

Hi,

I am trying to connect an Canon ip4200 printer to a wireless network.

The wireless network is via a Siemens 6250 wireless router, connected via LAN cable to a desktop computer running windows XP. The printer connects to this computer via USB cable. There is two laptops connected to the wireless network which i would like to be able to print from, both running windows XP.

Can i set it up with the current equipment but require having the desktop computer running to print or is there a way to directly connect the printer to the wireless router?

Thanks for any help coming my way!

Wireless Printer not Connecting

Hi,

The turn offline problem arises due to some hanging problems of network or other reasons. Sometimes your wireless printer will hang due to problems like sticky label residue, paper clips or torn paper that might be left in your wireless printer. These issues will stop your wireless printer from working properly.
