Cannot open files on USB drives

When I insert a USB Flash Drive, it is recognized and assigned a Drive

Letter.

however when I try to access (open) it to transfer or read files I get the

message

"This Operation Has Been Cancelled Due to Restrictions in Effect on This

Computer. Please contact your system administrator"

I have tried looking at every check box that I can find to no avail.

Can anyone help?? OR point me to someone or a group that can?

Thanks

Mark

Are you plugging the USB drive into your work computer (or a computer

that used to be a work computer)?

Are you disconnecting the USB using the 'safely remove hardware' icon?

I just recently started having issues with my thumb drive not showing up

after unplugging it. I've done it for years, but have now been told

both by MS and Dell that I have to use that tool. I do now, and

everything works.

PS. I got the ding dong too, telling me it was recognized, but in my

case the drive never showed up. A bit different than your issue, but

still, I ask the question as a stab in the dark.

Ran into a similar problem when my Motherboard died. Had a usb external

drive. I did a clean install on my new machine but then couldn't access

any of the files on my usb drive. Same as you describe.

Go here or do a google search for "Taking ownership of a folder".

There is an article on the Microsoft support site but I can't locate the

url right now...

Good luck.....

It is a restriction set in the registry.
