Guest its_my_dime Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I am trying to remove the last pieces of Norton software. I've run the Symantec Removal Tool. Add/Remove programs shows something called: Symantec Technical Support Web Controls still remaining. I have no idea which program initially installed it and there is nothing on the Symantec web site. Clicking REMOVE gathers info and then says that it can't find SymADataWeb.msi in c/windows/installer. Search finds neither the file nor the folder on my computer. I can, however, download the msi file from the Symantec web site but don't know where to put it. Help, please.
Guest its_my_dime Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Re: What is c:/windows/installer? OK. Cancel this request for info. Symantec left a whole bunch of stuff in the registry that I manually removed. That seems to have eliminated the reference to the program in add/remove. Guest Sean.May Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Re: What is c:/windows/installer? The installer folder houses install packages for pretty much all software you've installed on your PC, including drivers and so forth. Each package pertrains to a certain program, and is usually kept there to assist with uninstallation of said software. Sometimes removing a corrupted uninstall file can help resolve issues surrounding that program etc, but that sort of thing is usually a list-ditch effort. If you want to see which files are for which programs etc, either browse to your C:\Windows\Installer folder or click Start, Run, type Installer and hit OK. Then click the View menu, click Choose Details and select the Title option. This will populate after a few moments and you can see which is which. Norton uninstallation issues are fun. :) Good luck!
