Extremely low DVD sound (Media player)

Hia folks

 

I'm trying to set up PCs and laptops to read DVDs using the Media

Player. Video (and menus, etc) come out ok, but the sound is allways

so low I can barelly hear anything. Even with both sound levels at max

(windows and speaker knob) it's not even a whisper...

 

I've tried 2 movies on 1 PC and 1 laptop, diferent brands. They are

both on Windows XP Pro. The only thing I can think of is a possible

problem with the codec pack the original installer used... any

thoughts?

There are FOUR places to check the volume. (make sure that the last two

aren't somehow set to mute).

 

-Knob on the speaker.

 

-Slider on bottom of Media Player

 

-Control Panel - Sounds and Audio

 

-Volume button - task bar - right bottom.

 

Come back when you've checked these.

Questions:

 

Does the volume/speakers work when you play normal computer sounds?

 

Can you play avi / wmv files through the media player and still get proper

sound?

 

In other words, is the problem ONLY limited to the DVD player?

questions.

 

Go to Google and put in: No DVD sound (and similar.)

 

Problem likely to be either NERO softwre. or, as you suggested, the CODEC.

I'm sure you have already tried this and it is kind of basic but here goes.

 

Right click on the sound icon in the task bar and choose "Open Volume

Control" Alternative is to double click on the icon as it should open the

same controls.

 

When the "Volume Control" has opened go to "Options" and choose "Properties"

 

Make sure the "Playback" button is chosen. You should now see a list of

possible volume controls in the window. some may not have a check mark in

them. Go ahead and add the check mark in them all and then click on the

"OK" button.

 

This should bring up a display of all the volume controls for Playback. See

if raising the individual volume controls on them helps with your problem.

Also turn off the "Mute" option for them to actually be able to use that

particular volume control.

Did you see the kleynhans post at the daniweb site that was posted by JR

earlier? It solved my problem. It was simply - In wmp go to

tools/options/DVD/advanced. A "Properties" box comes up with 4 tabs. On the

main tab select the main gain and move it to the top and click ok. This is

in xp wmp 11 so, yours might be a bit different for 10. Good luck.
