Hi each and all could someone help me with a problem.About three days ago my laptop just switched off for no reason,so i tired rebooting, and it only started working after several attempts.I thought it may be a hardware problem as it kept switching off again however it seems to work fine now until i move the machine or knock it then it switches off again which makes me wonder if its a loose connection.Could someone maybe tell me what to look for if i open it up its fairly old and long past its warranty but apart from this problem runs fine. Its a fujitsu siemens amilo 7320.I dont thinks its a power thing as it switches off with or without the power supply. Many thanks in advance.

It does sound like a loose connection but working on the inside of a laptop is not something for everyone.

Hi,

You could check the easy options first.

Take the hard drive out and re-seat it. Do the same with the RAM modules. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser before you put them back.

They will be easily accessed from under removable panels on the base of the machine.

No mate as all you are doing is re-seating it.

To my mind however the problem lies here with the internal PSU or the CPU and fan assembly.

Just how old is this laptop?

i would say about 4 years. Also im now getting the blue screen with a load of figures on it like 0x0000008E someone suggested to me that this can happen when you update drivers which i actually did the day before this problem started thank you for your time.

i forgot to ask if i take the hard drive out wouldnt that loose all data

Just to confirm what Wolf has already said ....

You can take the hard drive out with no loss of data or damage at all.

I was thinking that it may have been shaken loose and there is a bad connection.

If it's of any help, I've come across this in the past and it was due to overheating. It's possible your fan is clogged with dust (even the cleanest houses have it), in which case the CPU may not be getting cooled as efficiently as it should.

It may therefor be worth trying to carefully clear the fan and its' vents of any dust. If done properly, the fan and heatsink may start to do their job correctly again, the CPU may not get as hot and intermittent power-offs could cease.

Don't blow the dust into the laptop with a can of air - suck the dust out with a vacuum.

Like I say, just throwing this out to you, it may well be as suggested by others above.

Good luck.

What!!!!

Doing so would be madness as it would create electrical static unless using a battery powered vacuum.

The very nature of a can of compressed air means that it is under pressure and the force of spraying the air will eliminate all instances of dust especially in confined areas.

The hard drive is down the toilet mate.

I suggest you obtain a new one, do you have your operating system disk to hand?

So besides a hard drive that is dead the optical drive also does not work.

Do yourself a favour AFC and toss the lappy in the nearest skip.

To my mind it's pointless investing money in it.

mr wolf i think your right although i only used it for surfing as it was handy having it in the front room i never used the cd player after it stopped loading disks.
