Remote Assistance - what to check ?

I've never used RA on my PC and now trying to be the "expert". My niece

sent me email invite - I clicked attachment - she got nothing on screen -

eventually I get a "can't find client'-type message. I had her turn off

firewall - same. After a few minutes we rescheduled.

She has XP SP2 and DSL router .... big-picture-wise, to get ready to do

this,

what are settings to have her check ? RA - is on -as she sent me email.

I'll have her turn off firewall - she's on Verizon DSL - I'm on Comcast

cable - any issues there ? I can see router IP in her address - I thought

RA would " handle that" ? ( I changed numbers in message to xxx while

reviewing)

If we're both on routers - a problem ? Disconnect them temporarily ? (

Yeah I know not cool, but just want to make it simple for her - let me

connect - check things out - disconnect)

I've been checking msft such as

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300692

and others but looking for things such as:

Check:

1

2.

3.

On MY pc I see in event log:

Event Type: Information

Event Source: Remote Assistance

Description:

Expert (local user: AMD\Bobb) has opened the following ticket:

65xxx,1,192.168.1.47:16xxx;10.0.0.2:3389

I would have thought PUBLIC IP for her PC ??

Meanwhile another message here mentioned TeamReviewer - I'll check it out,

but would like to learn/use RA.

Thanks

Re: Remote Assistance - what to check ?

A router should not cause a problem but a firewall may. I have had problems

trying to use email Remote Assistance (RA)--try using Messenger RA instead.

How to find RA can vary based on the version of Messenger being used. On

Live, double click the Messenger icon in the tray, on the resulting screen

click toolbar, click actions and select request remote assistance.
