Guest Enfield Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 It looks like that there are several devices which show as expired with the old date and a new license has been re-issued to the same device, but the old one has not been refreshed or released for others to use. I checked couple of settings on License Manager to release it but was unsuccessful as there is no option to either right click on that device and say release or disconnect. Any ideas guys! Thanks in advance!
Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Re: Release of old licenses in TS I assume that you are running Windows 2003 on your TS and TS Licensing Server? And that you are using Per Device licenses? If so, check if this solves the problem: Expired TS CALs are not returned to the pool of available licenses http://ts.veranoest.net/ts_faq_licensing.htm#release_expired_TSCALs _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ =?Utf-8?B?RW5maWVsZA==?= <Enfield@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 01 jul 2008 in microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services: > It looks like that there are several devices which show as > expired with the > old date and a new license has been re-issued to the same > device, but the old one has not been refreshed or released for > others to use. > > I checked couple of settings on License Manager to release it > but was unsuccessful as there is no option to either right click > on that device and say release or disconnect. > > Any ideas guys! Guest Enfield Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Re: Release of old licenses in TS Hi Vera, Thanks for the reply and the post. Well that was some news for me for the first time and it was really helpful. Unfortunately, I do not have VSS running on this server, but there are several other servers that it might be running which I am not aware of, but I am sure it should be running somewhere I know in few locations which I can find out. So, do you think running VSS on any other server would cause this problem in not releasing the expired licenses? thanks again will wait for your reply. Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Re: Release of old licenses in TS No, only if VSS is running on the Licensing Server can it have this effect. Have you stopped and restarted the TS Licensing Service on the Licensing Server? maybe the recovery thread stoped for some other reason? If that doesn't solve it, are there any warnings or errors in the EventLog on the LS? Can you post the result of the lsreport tool here (it's part of the Windows 2003 resource Kit) 317592 - HOW TO: Use the Terminal Services Licensing Reporter Tool (Lsreport.exe) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317592 _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ =?Utf-8?B?RW5maWVsZA==?= <Enfield@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 02 jul 2008 in microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services: > Hi Vera, > > Thanks for the reply and the post.
