Guest Bruno Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Hi, Whenever I use Windows XP SP2 with the VPN provider Relakks (https://www.relakks.com/), one instance of svchost.exe crashes (1) after a few minutes. The VPN connection was created using the Windows New Connection Wizard. I didn't install any VPN programs. If I double click on the VPN connection icon in the system tray after svchost.exe has crashed, the status window pops up then immediately disappears. Even if I restart the services manually (except for "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)"--I get an "access denied" error message when I try to restart it), I have only a very limited access to the Internet (web downloads started before the crash continue, but I can't browse the web, I'm offline according to OE, etc.) until the computer is rebooted. I used SecureIX for months and never had this problem. I tried with an old Ghost backup of the Windows partition but the problem remains. Does anyone know if there is a fix or a good program I could use instead of the Windows VPN client? __ 1 * tasklist/svc -- svchost.exe before the crash: AudioSrv, Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver, EventSystem, FastUserSwitchingCompatibility, lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasMan, seclogon, SENS, SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection, TapiSrv, Themes, TrkWks, W32Time, winmgmt, WZCSVC * tasklist/svc -- svchost.exe after the crash: EventSystem, SENS, Themes, winmgmt * Administrative Tools -- Services that are stopped when svchost.exe crashes: Computer Browser Cryptographic Services DHCP Client Distributed Link Tracking Client Fast User Switching Compatibility Logical Disk Manager Network Connections Network Location Awareness (NLA) Remote Access Connection Manager Secondary Logon Server Shell Hardware Detection Telephony Windows Audio Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Wireless Zero Configuration Workstation * Event Viewer: Application popup: svchost.exe - Application Error : The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x5b86a3c0.
Guest GTI Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Re: Relakks, VPN, and svchost.exe I'm having the same problem with another VPN provider which is also using XP's New Connection Wizard. If I just ignore it everything works fine. Is it ok to just ignore it? TIA. -- GTI Posted via http://computerhelpforums.net Forum to USENET Gateway
