Move TS from workgroup to domain?

Hi,

We have a Win2k3 TS in workgroup mode that connects us to our Netware

server. We're (finally!) getting rid of our Netware server & replacing it

with a Win2k3 server. The new server will be a domain. What's the best

practice for changing the TS server from wg mode to domain mode? Just join

the domain? Make it some sort of a controller? These will be our only 2

servers.

Thx,

DD

I am not qualified to specifically answer your question because

I do not deal with Netware.

Some of the things I would think about before the move are:

Are your current user logins local to your current TS server or

do they get their access rights from the Netware server.

If they are local to the TS, you will need to recreate the logins

and passwords in A/D.

Where are your user profiles stored? Are they on the TS or in

Netware's LDAP directory (don't know if Netware has a special

name for this or not)?

As for the TS itself, you just add the server to the domain and that

is it.

Once you have the A/D Server setup and you have added the TS server

to the domain, you are going to want to move it into its own OU

in A/D.

Google search this group for more information regarding adding a TS

to A/D, group policy and locking down TS with group policy.

Also, check out http://ts.veranoest.net/ and http://www.sessioncomputing.com

for more information regarding TS and A/D.

Hopefully others in this group can help explicitly with the

Netware side of things.

Hi Moncho,

I'll put my questions inline (see below):

** Netware is a non-issue as they connect to it thru the TS by logging in

using a Netware Client, there are no settings.

** The current are local to the TS - they match the NW server so there's

only one login.

** I'll recreate logins & passwords in A/D.

** The profiles are on the TS - how can I keep them?

** Any idea how I move it to it's own OU?

Thanks so much :)

I do not know if you can keep them. Maybe someone else here

knows or has a link to a MS KB article.

Create an OU called TSServers (or whatever you like) and drag

the TS computer to the OU.

Search this group and look up "loopback processing" along with

other information about securing a TS server using group policy.

You will want to check out the links in my other post. There

is A LOT of info there regarding TS.
