frozen screen windows xp professional

Hi,

I was loading kaspersky internet security 2011 and got all the way to the activation code screen and the mouse pointer and keyboard have frozen, after battery and mouse changes and many restarts, I cannot move on from this screen the keyboard will work during startup but stops when the activation screen comes up. Have tried other keyboards mouses (mice?) etc. I turn to you in desperation before the pc gets flying lessons.

Frustrating these damn computers, aren't they.

I don't know if it will help you but if you look at my problem and many replies some of them might help you, although, so far and after many attempts my PC still continues to freeze at varoius times from the scroll to using the PC for about 5 mins or less.

Look at "XP continually freezes"

Hi Bill and welcome to ExTS

 

Switch on and immediately start tapping F8.

This should get you to the Advanced Startup Options.

Select "Last Known Good Configuration" - see if it will boot from this.

 

Will it boot up from Safe Mode ( from the same list ) ?

Did you have an Anti Virus software installed before you chose to install Kaspersky IS 2011??

 

Reason I am asking is, it is possible you may have been infected already... just a thought.

that has happened to me when i installed new hardware because my power box was not good enough to power all the stuff i had installed.

have you recently had new hard ware installed in to your computer? because if you have to much hard ware it sucks up all the power then the power box stops giving power to every thing but the mother board making it that you have to restart or crash it to get it working again

when i say stops giving power to every thing but the mother board i mean the power box will still power the mother box but not anything like the hard cd drive floppy disk drive and fans unless they are plunged in to the mother board.
