RachieA Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hi, I am a bit clueless when it comes to computers! I have a desktop which connects fine and the internet works fine. I bought an Acer Aspire laptop a couple of months ago and that worked fine initially but a couple of weeks ago it stopped connecting to the internet even though it said it was connected to my Sky wireless broadband and that the signal is strong. I have windows 7. The driver is atheros ar5b97. When I ping 127.0.0.1 this works. When I ping 192.168.0.1 it says "destination host unreachable". Ping statistics "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss) ". I'm desperate to get online and would be grateful for any help. Quote
KenB Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hi and welcome. Try resetting the router. Switch off > leave for 1 minute > switch on again. Also try right click on monitor icon ( bottom right of screen ) and select "Repair" Can you access the net with this laptop if you use an ethernet cable direct to the router? RachieA Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Thanks for replying. The first didn't work. The second - I don't seem to have a monitor icon???? Quote
GRANDAD Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 (edited) Hi, this may appear a bit daft but, as I have an ACER ASPIRE laptop also, I too had this fault-so I thought in the early days===at the top of the key board there is a symbol that looks like a satellite dish which should be flashing. If you press the button it will say WIRELESS LAN DISABLED, press again and it says WIRELESS LAN ENABLED AND THE SYMBLE FLASHES, hence connection. I had inadvertently disconnected somehow and it took alittle while to find a simple solution. Hope this helps!! Edited June 30, 2011 by GRANDAD Quote
KenB Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hi GRANDAD, This is certainly worth looking at. I don't think that RachieA would be able to send any packets with the ping 192.168.0.1 if the wireless was switched off. But - let's wait for RachieA's reply before we try anything else - this may explain why there is no icon :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Hi, to add to Ken, sometimes with some routers just the IP numbers may not go anywhere. I have an Edimax router and to get into that it needs the full address of http://192.168.2.1 Once the page opens and providing no other log in or password has been set, the usual manufacturers log in is "admin" with the password "1234" That should then allow you to get fully into the router software and carry out any adjustments or changes.
