Hi,

virtual wifi miniport adapter

Was this showing in Device Manager originally ?

You never said if you could connect using a cable direct to the router - can you ?

Try disabling the Firewall and see if you can connect now ( wirelessly )

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

I don't suppost the wireless button is switched off is it?

It should be at the top of the keyboard near to the screen - satelite icon.

No.

When I switched on this morning it connected straight away with internet connection and it recognised my Sky wireless "home network", after a couple of minutes it lost internet connection but still showed a connection to Sky. This is unusual. It has been showing a connection to "Unidentified network - public network" all the while I've had this problem. In fact, I have just disconnected and reconnected and it has reverted to "Unidentified network - public network".

Troubleshooting shows "The default gateway is not available - not fixed" and "The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken - detected"

Hi

Start ....type in ....Services..... ( It may be Services.msc - I don't use Win7 )......ENTER

Scroll down the Services and see if you have :

id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762

or

Bonjour DNS Responder Service

If you do - double click on the service and disable it in "Startup Type".

You will probably have to re-boot to see the effects.

I was hoping that would have solved it.

Go back to Services:

Make sure all of the following are started: ( If not - set them all to automatic )

Computer Browser

DHCP Client

DNS Client

Network Location Awareness

Server

TCP/IP Netbios helper

Wired Autoconfig

WLAN Autoconfig

Workstation

I have restarted and the problem still remains. I only bought this in May, should I just take it back to PC World?

Right, here is an update! I took the laptop to PC World as it is still within the warranty. They quickly established there was a problem with the wireless card and sent it off to Acer for a repair. Acer replaced the wireless card and I got the laptop back today. I am typing on it now! Yay!

Hi RachieA,

I posted this earlier ....

I am beginning to suspect that your Network Adapter has died.

many thanks for the feedback - it is always good to hear when a problem gets solved :)
