opsmajor Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Be gentle - my first post and I'm an IT dinasaur! I was in my Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 Service Pack 3 (32-bit version?) this morning: no problem with Windows Internet Explorer or Outlook Express except I kept getting a request to re-enter my internet password. As I was already in I just kept cancelling that but it got annoying so I shut my computer down (normal way). Logging in now I have Internet Explorer BUT the Outlook Express version comes up as Version 6 (totallly different screen) with a few emails of August 2005 when I purchased this computer. Where has my current version (and the hundreds of stored emails!) gone please? Many thanks - sorry for the long question. Mike Quote
RandyL Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 OE6 is the last version. There is nothing newer. Are you referring to Outlook instead of Outlook Express? opsmajor Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks for replying but ...I don't know! The screen opens with Outlook Express version 6 with some stored emails from 2005 (nothing newer). The screen used to open up showing my email folder (full of folders), calendar, tasks and contacts - I have none of these now. Remember I'm an IT dinasaur! Quote
opsmajor Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 I've just tried to send a test email from the screen (OE6) that opened up and it put me into the internet connection wizard and when I tried to send it said I didn't have an account. I stopped there before I messed things up further! Does this mean my email (I had two addresses) has been wiped out from 2005? Mike Quote
RandyL Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 calendar, tasks and contacts The calendar and tasks are part of Outlook which is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. Outlook would be your email client. What you are opening is Outlook Express which is a free basic email client that comes installed with XP and older operating systems. Your mail should still be in Outlook. All you need to do is open it. Try typing outlook.exe in the run box. If this works then you probably just need to change your default mail client back to Outlook as it appears to be set as Outlook Express currently. Quote We are all members helping other members.
